Welcome to the web site for RainShadow Yarn. I have been working with natural dyes for over 20 years. Alum sulfate, a non-toxic powder, is the only mordant that I use on my yarns and I employ the same natural dye materials that have been in use for centuries: indigo, cochineal, Osage orange, fustic, logwood, and brazilwood, to name a few.
You have heard of eating locally. Well, I create yarn locally. Some of the wool from my own sheep ends up in my yarn, but most of it is sourced within 100 miles of my farm. I have added local kid mohair and local alpaca to some of my blends, but the silk and cashmere are from elsewhere. The yarn is spun at various custom spinning mills around the United Sates and the roving is carded locally.
Please remember that colors may not be accurate on your computer monitor. You may call or e-mail for samples.
Enjoy my web site and my products.
